Debra Kaye Phillips

October 13, 1959 — December 31, 2023

Haughton

"On December 31st, 2023, Debra Kaye Phillips finished her hard-fought battle with cancer and passed peacefully into the healing arms of her Savior. She was surrounded by all her kids and her husband Jim, who stayed by her side to the end.

Debbie was born on October 13, 1959, in Denver, CO, and moved with her family years later to Louisiana, where she would eventually meet the love of her life and start her own family. She met Jim in October 1980 at Pizza Hut where they both worked and started dating. They were married on May 23, 1981, and shared 42 loving and adventurous years together.

Born out of her devotion to Christ and His mission, Debbie spent the majority of her life in ministry and service to others. She treasured her relationship with her Lord above all else, which fostered her love for people in all walks of life. Debbie and Jim opened their home countless times over the years to youth who needed a place to stay and spent the past five of those years fostering children. She had a passion for teaching and never stopped learning. She trained in Trust-Based Relational Intervention and joined the Volunteers for Youth Justice. She was awarded Volunteer of the Year for 2022 for her service advocating for children, even doing meetings from her hospital bed.

She leaves a legacy of what it looks like to love God and love people, and will be dearly missed by her family: beloved wife of Jimmy Phillips, "mom" to many but especially Carol Dodson & husband Derek, Ryan Phillips & wife Milah, James Phillips & wife Pepper, Alisha Sloan & husband John, Jacob Phillips & wife Rylie, and Mamaw to Maurie, Colby, Elizabeth, Katherine, Lincoln, Simone, and Isaiah. Daughter to Barbara Boyce, sister to Dale Boyce Jr. & wife Laurie, and Robert Boyce & wife Stacey, and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her father, Dale Boyce Sr.

Donations to Camp Fuego or FBC Haughton Student Ministry in lieu of flowers are greatly appreciated."
