Debra Lynn Stickell Magill
October 23, 1953 – December 16, 2024
Born on October 23, 1953, in the heart of London, England, to the loving embrace of Joe and Ginny Stickell, Debra Lynn Magill left this world on December 16, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Her strength and resilience throughout her illness were a testament to her indomitable spirit.
Debby was preceded in death by her cherished father, James Joseph Stickell, her beloved brother Dean Parker Stickell, her dear nephew Chad Allen Kuhn, loving father-in-law Edward James Magill and her revered pug, Sophie.
She is survived by the love of her life, her devoted husband Richard James Magill, of 51 wonderful years, their treasured daughter Gemma Jane Magee, and her favorite grandson James Cole Magee. Debby will forever be remembered by her adoring mother, Virginia Ann Stickell, her caring sister Cindy and husband Allen Kuhn, her brother James Joseph Stickell II and wife Dee, mother-in-law Patricia Magill, as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Also, left behind: cherished fur babies Gus, Uma, and grandpup Asher.
She held her dear friends close to her heart, including her Bunko family and the wonderful ladies of her Garden Club. A passionate educator, Debby dedicated 33 years of her life to nurturing young minds as a beloved teacher, tutor, and swimming instructor. Even after retirement, she continued to inspire students by substituting at her treasured Providence Classical Academy. Her love for history and social studies led her to bring democracy closer to her community through her work at the election polls for Bossier Parish. Having been an Air Force brat, she traveled extensively during her life, a gift she generously shared with her students and their families throughout the years, organizing memorable travel experiences with her dear friend, Melissa Haygood.
A proud graduate of LSU-Shreveport with a degree in Education, Debby also found joy in nurturing her gardens and creating a loving home for rescue pups from Ninna's. In lieu of flowers, her family kindly requests that those touched by her spirit consider donating to Ninna's Road to Rescue in her memory.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Kirtan Koticha and his staff, the compassionate team at Christus Highland, and Dr. Milind Javle along with the devoted caregivers at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Their exceptional care allowed Debby to cherish precious moments with her loved ones—the moments she fought so valiantly to hold onto.
