David Bryan McConnell, Jr. passed away August 4, 2017 after a long struggle with COPD that was caused by smoking. Dave was born in Shreveport, LA on January 19, 1933 to David Bryan McConnell, Sr. and Dallas Fay Barnes. Dave attended C. E. Byrd High School and was a member of the ROTC National Championship Rifle Team. He was a graduate of Sewanee Military Academy in 1951 and was also a member of their rifle team. Dave attended LSU in Baton Rouge where he studied geology.
Dave was a member of the Athletic Club of Shreveport and the YMCA, where he made many life-long friends, and later joined the Willis-Knighton Pierremont Health Center. He was a member of the Shreveport Gun Club, Shreveport Bicycle Club, a Master Mason and a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents and survived by his daughters, Candace McConnell Collette, husband Rusty and Kelley McConnell Green, husband Dr. Doug Green. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Seth Simmons, Hannah Simmons Crotty, and husband Bobby; Jonathan Green, Andrew Green, Matthew Green; and two great grandchildren, Cooper and Addison.
The family thanks the staff at Lifecare for their compassion and excellent care. He was blessed with wonderful friends who visited him faithfully in his last days. A private memorial service will be held at a future date.
