Cynthia Ann English McClendon
Mama Nana
My beautiful mama, Cynthia Ann, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at home in Bossier City surrounded by her loving family. A memorial will be held at Boone Funeral Home, Saturday February 1, 2025, at 1:00pm.
She was born in Lufkin, TX July 5, 1939, to William Robert English and Jewel Pauline Shumaker making her a 5th generation Texan. Cynthia grew up in the Redtown Community, roughly between Pollok and the Neches River. She was baptized in the Neches River at age 13 and was a member of the Redtown Missionary Baptist Church.
In 1957 she graduated from Central High School and went to work for the Lufkin Telephone Exchange as an operator. She met and married Lufkin Police Officer Billy McClendon then moved to Bossier City, LA. Mama went to work at South Central Bell in 1962 and retired in 1997.
Granddaughter Libby Dubois and her two children, Andrew and Caroline lived close, and she saw them every day of their lives. Mama absolutely cherished the times her other grand and great grandchildren came in from out of town, not caring if it was one or all 30 at a time. She loved them all.
Mama enjoyed traveling with friends Jeannette Neary and Ann. She spoke with Paula Sue and Nancy Choate almost daily, to stay updated on her East Texas family and friends.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents; grandchildren DruAnn Dubois and Jeremy Powell; brothers Robert English, Richard English, and Darrell English; son-in-law George Herzog and brother-in-law Jim Goins who she spent many hours with at Paula Sue’s kitchen table. No world problems were solved but they sure had a great time trying.
Left to cherish her everlasting memories are daughters Gayla Dubois of Bossier City, LA and Nancy Herzog of Montgomery, TX; granddaughter Libby Dubois of Benton, LA; great grandchildren Andrew and Caroline Phillips of Benton, LA; Mama was also blessed to have 6 more living grandchildren and over 30 great grandchildren living out of state; sister Paula Sue Goins of Wells, TX and her children Tracy Thomason of Chester, TX and Brandi Waltz of Lufkin, TX.
Mama always forgave and loved everyone.
