Charles Stuart Gordon Boone, II

Funeral services for Charles Stuart Gordon Boone, II will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 2:00 PM with visitation beginning at 12:30 PM at First United Methodist Church Bossier City, Louisiana.  Officiating will be Rev. Mark Goins and Rev. Emily Bankston.  Interment will follow at Rose Neath Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers will be Mr. John Byrd, Mr. Ted Cook, Mr. Grady Hooper, Dr. Clint McAlister, Mr. Donald Sonnier, Dr. Fred Willis, and Mr. Penny Worley.

Charles is the son of the late Dr. Charles Stuart Boone and Alyne Harris Boone.  He was born January 4, 1937 in Shreveport, Louisiana and passed away Friday, April 26, 2024 at the age of 87 in Bossier City, Louisiana.  Charles was named after his grandfather, Rev. Charles Stuart Gordon Boone, who served as a cadet in the British Navy alongside King George.

Charles graduated from C.E. Byrd High School and attended Centenary College where he met and married Margaret Anne Cowen of Midland, Louisiana.  He graduated from Commonwealth College of Mortuary Science in Houston, Texas where he was a member of the prestigious National Honorary Pi Sigma Eta Fraternity.

Charles is survived by his wife, Margaret Anne Cowen Boone of 64 years, two daughters, Valerie LaPointe and husband Harvey of Lafayette, Louisiana and Becky Halbrook and her husband Matt of Bossier City, Louisiana and son Stuart Boone of Shreveport, Louisiana.  He has three grandchildren, Sadie Caillouet, who preceded him in death, Cassie Murphy and husband, Jeremy and Rachel Halbrook and great granddaughter, Hannah Murphy.  He is also survived by his brother, Robert Boone and wife, Nancy of Shreveport, Louisiana.

Charles and Margaret Anne co-founded Boone Funeral Home in Bossier City, Louisiana in November 1972 and expanded their funeral business by establishing North Louisiana’s first crematory as well as two full service florists.

Charles has been an active member of First United Methodist Church and the Midyett Sunday School Class of Bossier City since 1972.  He and Margaret Anne were recognized for 50 years of membership in 2022.  Charles chaired various church committees including two terms as Chairman of the Administrative Board.  He was a former member and past president of Bossier City Rotary Club and recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He also attended BSF, Bible Study Fellowship, and was a former member of the Bossier Sheriff Posse.

Charles was the past chairman of the Greater Bossier Economic Development Foundation, past chairman of the Holiday In Dixie Duchess Club, and past chairman of the Industrial Development Board of Bossier City.

Professionally, Charles was past president of Preferred Funeral Directors International and past president of the Louisiana Funeral Directors Association.  In 1986 and again in 1996, he received the Outstanding Funeral Director of the Year Award from the state association.  He was only the third person in a 48 year history of the association to be so honored to have received the award twice.  During his term as president of the state organization, he was instrumental in establishing a statewide continuing education program for licensed funeral personnel.

Fraternally, he is a past member of Martin McClanahan Masonic Lodge and recently received his fifty year pin of membership.  He also served as Illustrious Grand Master of Cryptic Masonry for the state of Louisiana.  He was a member of the York Rite Bodies and Emeritus member of the Red Cross of Constantine.

Charles would like to express a special word of appreciation to Dr. Marie Vazques Morgan for her compassion, guidance and friendship during his stroke rehabilitation.  He would also like to express much appreciation to his full time caregivers, TeSheena Blake and Claudette Young who loved him like family.

Charles’ family has designated memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, 201 John Wesley Blvd., Bossier City, Louisiana 71112 or other charitable organizations that are dedicated to God’s good and loving ministries.
