Funeral services for Calvin Joseph ?Happy? Cornet, Jr. will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Louisiana Funeral and Cremation Care, 3909 Meriwether Rd, Shreveport, LA. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery. Officiating will be Larry W. Dean, of Bridgetown Baptist Church, Nesbit, MS and Jerry Hodge, of University Church of Christ, Shreveport, LA. The family will receive friends at Louisiana Funeral and Cremation Care on Wednesday May 13, 2009 between the hours of 5:00 and 7:00 PM Happy was born January 29, 1947 in Bogalusa, LA to Rita Parker and Calvin Joseph, Sr. He passed on May 11, 2009 in Stonewall following a courageous battle with cancer. He graduated from Mandeville High School in 1966 and then met the love of his life Sandy and was married for almost 40 years. He was an outdoorsman and an avid hunter. He also loved to fish, attend boat races, and watch baseball, but most of all he loved his family more than life itself. Waiting for him in heaven are his parents, Rita and Calvin Cornet. He leaves behind his wife, Sandy Messer Cornet; three sons, Jeffrey and wife Kristy, Kevin and wife Amy, Ryan and wife Robin; six grandchildren, Chase, Ragan, Kayla, John, Kolby, and Nora, all of Stonewall, LA. He is also survived by his sister Madeline Savoie and husband Wendell of New Roads, LA; half-brother, Michael James Cornet of Atlanta, GA; a large ?in-law? family that considers him one of their own; many nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles; and friends at Jimmy Granger Ford. Pallbearers will be Chuck Jagers, Jay Janis, Rickey Salley, Bubba Salley, Bill Parker, Russell Tabor, Mac Plummer and Wendell Savoie. Honorary pallbearers will be the Class of ?66 of Mandeville High School. The family would like to thank his brother-in-law, Scott, who was more like a brother. Many thanks to everyone who has been there during this journey, especially Calvin?s close friends, Rickey Salley, Chuck Jagers, and Jay Janis. Also to nurse Linda Hill and the Willis Knighton Hospice Staff and Dr. Germain Cassiere for their care and assistance throughout this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or charity of donor?s choice.
