Brenda Kaye Thomas Vrooman, age 83, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at her home. Brenda was born on February 3, 1942, in Bradley, Arkansas, to J. H. and Orleans Weems Thomas. She was a mother, sister, aunt, and friend to many folks who loved her dearly.
She leaves behind her son, Marc Douglas Vrooman; her sister, Anneice Butler (Billy); and her brother, Johnny Thomas (Judy). Also left to cherish her memory are her nieces, nephews, along with numerous cousins. Brenda loved being with family and sharing time with them during holidays and special events.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, J. H. Thomas and Orlean Weems Thomas, and her loving aunt, Margaret Burkmier.
During her lifetime, she excelled in three distinctly different careers. First, in the Aerospace Industry in California, then in the Oil and Gas Industry in Shreveport, where she became the first female Geologic Technician in this area. After the decline of the Oil and Gas Industry, Brenda made the decision to return to college and pursue a nursing degree at the age of 50. She attended and graduated from Northwestern State University with a 4.0 GPA and a nursing degree.
After graduating from nursing school, Brenda went to work for LSU Medical Center in the neonatal unit. She loved taking care of all the little babies. After retiring from nursing, she decided to raise show boxers and started Wildcrest Kennel. Her boxers were her passion. She raised several Grand Champions and even had dogs shown and winning in Canada, Europe, and Brazil.
