Bossier City-Bettye Jane Hart Huggins woke her children up every morning with "wake up sleepy head". Bettye was married to and loved by one man Charles Huggins for over 60 years. Bettye followed her husband around the world in his military career and was involved in Eastern Star in those many years of globetrotting. Bettye graduated with an Associate's Degree from Southern Arkansas University where she was a Valentine's Queen and a college DJ. After years of being a full time mother, when her children started college she returned to college and graduated from University of the Philippines. She attended NSU and received her Masters plus 30. She also worked for the Louisiana State Department of Education for her region as a LATIP evaluator of teachers. She spent many happy years as a teacher until her retirement. After retirement she became involved in genealogy, art, and volunteered to teach senior computer classes.
Bettye Jane Hart Huggins, age 83, was born in Shreveport on December 20, 1930 and passed away at Willis Knighton Hospital on February 5, 2014. Visitation will be Sunday, February 9, 2014 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Boone Funeral Home, Airline Drive in Bossier City. Funeral services will be at Boone Funeral Home, February 10, 2014 at 12 noon. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Blanchard Porter Hart and Jesse Florice Bowen Hart, beloved husband of 60 years Charles E. Huggins; sister, Martha Ann Hart Smith; and grandson, Christopher Ryan Huggins.
Survivors include, son, Charles Huggins; three daughters, Sherrie Langley, Carolyn Manning, and Cynthia Huggins Fairchild; eight grandchildren, Robin Huggins Roberts and wife Lanie, William Langley and wife Loretta, Callie Manning, Sabrina Langley, Haley Huggins, Katie, Catherine, and Candace Fairchild; five great grandchildren, Madison Langley, Lucy and Beau Roberts, Elizabeth and William J. Langley IV: and sister Patricia Hart King.
