Betty Gorey Parent

Betty Gorey Parent, 72, resident of Shreveport & Bossier City, LA, died on May 14, 2020 from lung cancer.

If you knew her…..you knew her.  If not, you missed out.  She was courageous, funny, energetic, tenacious and touched many lives with her gifts and talents. She came across forcefully because that was all she knew.

She was born in Carlsbad, NM, on 1/9/1948 and grew up in New Orleans. Betty was the daughter of Bernard F. Gorey, Jr., and Sarah (Sally) Cuthell Shay

She attended All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church for 30 years.

Betty is survived by son Mark S. Parent and daughter Rechelle Parent (husband Todd Langton); grandchildren Connor Parent and Cassidy Woods; her favorite brother Bernard (Barney) Gorey III, and his wife Dora; and brother Peter William Gorey. She is preceded in death by her brother Michael Francis Gorey and both parents.

Nieces and nephews include Adam, Jennifer, Lauren, Justin, Ben and Marissa and their children and grandchildren.

A memorial service for Betty will take place at 10am Saturday May 23rd at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church (9449 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport). This will be a drive in service. Guests will remain in their cars and tune their radios to specific radio station. The service will also stream live on the All Souls Facebook page.

Betty has request in lieu of flowers, please either make a donation in her memory to an animal shelter of your choice or plant a native tree.
