Mrs. Audrey Brown has peacefully passed to her heavenly home on Tuesday, September 6, 2016. Audrey was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and retired teacher. Audrey was a highly accomplished professional woman who had multiple successful careers, beginning with being an educator in Kittanning, PA. Next, she was an executive secretary for a petroleum company in Dallas, TX. She returned to teaching in Elmira, NY. When her husband returned to military service in 1963, Audrey stayed home to raise her two children and support her husband as a missileer officer in the US Air Force. Once her children were high-school aged, she returned to the teaching profession in Bossier City, LA. Always a life-long learner, Audrey attended Indiana State Teachers' College, Elmira College, Syracuse University, Penn State, Centenary, LA Tech and LSU-S. Audrey was certified as a high school business teacher and DECA Coordinator, special education teacher, Bannetyne Reading Specialist, and high school counselor. She worked in Special Education at Bossier High School and the Bossier Skill Center where she was named Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Brown retired from teaching on June 6, 1994, to enjoy being a grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Dolly Zimmerman; her in-laws, Edward and Edna Brown; and her nephew, D. Scott Cujas. Audrey is survived by her beloved husband, Theodore (Ted) Brown; daughter, Kelley Rothenberger and son-in-law, Randy Rothenberger; son, Theodore (Ted) Brown, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Brown; sisters, Clare Cujas and Valerie Smith; and brother Victor Zimmerman as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren whom she so loved and was so proud: Twins, Maxwell and Alexander Rothenberger, granddaughter-in-law, Sandra Rothenberger; Twins, Catherine and Christina Brown; Chris Brown and Ryan Rothenberger. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Grace Home for their assistance and comfort at this difficult time. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Christus Grace Home Hospice, 1035 Margaret Pl, Shreveport, LA 71101. A private family memorial will be conducted in the near future.
