On February 1, 2019, 7 days before his 84th birthday, Robert L. Bruner, aka “Bob” of Shreveport, Louisiana passed away at Willis Knighten Hospital. At his bedside was his daughter, Stephanie Lee and Son-in-law Jim Lee. The family would like to thank Azalea Estates for 3 wonderful years in their care. He had a large apartment, lots of friends in both residents and staff, and when he could participate, lots of fun activities. He was even King of Mardi Gras! We would also like to thank Willis Knighten Pierremont’s Dr. Wen Liu and staff for taking care of both Bob and his wife Sherry for many wonderful years, and the 4th Floor nurses for being so compassionate in his final days.
Bob was born in Texarkana, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Willie Lewis Bruner on February 8, 1935. He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Sherry Bruner, parents Willie & Lelia Bruner, sisters Wilma Fike, Wynell Bruner, brother William L. (Dub) Bruner, and dear friends Tommy Munds, Roy Campisi and Jon Snyder.
He leaves behind daughter and only child Stephanie Lee (Jim), sister-in-law Pat Bruner, long-time friends Rodney & Janet Woodle and Jill Munds, and many other friends and extended family.
Bob was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he became an accountant by trade but that was only his job. He is best known for his love of friends and family, his humor (till the very end) and his stubbornness that no doubt aided him in living as long as he did. His favorite hobby was small scale ship building. When he would finish a ship there was no shortage of people who wanted his finished product. His favorite day was when he’d order a brand new box of what looked to us normal folks as just pieces of wood and “instructions” in a foreign language. To him, it was the beginning of a journey that always ended in the most beautiful and intricate piece of art.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 7970 Mike Clark Road, Keithville, Louisiana on February 15th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., with a celebration of his life to follow.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association.
