Myrtis Louise Moore ( Memi) McCarty,age 91, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at her home in Shreveport, LA. She lived a full and vibrant life and will be greatly missed. Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren,great and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Boone Funeral Home Bossier Chapel, 2156 Airline Drive, on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 10:00 am.
A Life Celebration service will follow at 11:00 am. in the Boone Chapel.
Myrtis Louise Moore was born in Homer, Louisiana on June 4, 1925 to Tobe Moore and Margaret Louella Langston Moore. She spent her childhood years primarily in Athens and Haynesville, Louisiana.As a young adult, she met and fell in love with a young man that worked at her Father's sawmill. His name was Robert Edward McCarty.She and Robert were married in 1942. Shortly after their wedding, Robert joined the Army. Myrtis continued to live with her parents. Upon his return,they followed his career as a welder for a few years until permanently making their home in Shreveport where they raised their four children. Myrtis worked at GE for many years but her passion was sewing.
She was an excellent seamstress and worked in alterations at Porter's Cleaners until the age of 84. Myrtis was working on two volunteer projects when she became sick in November of this year. One was making lap quilts for Veterans at the Bossier Veteran's Home and the other was making pillow cases for children in the hospital at the University Health Center. She enjoyed these tasks very much. For example, she made 38 pillow cases from September to November. A true representation of her loving heart and dedication to being productive and vital.
Myrtis (Memi) was preceded in death by her husband, parents, six brothers, Kenneth, Ray, Bob, Frank, Tobe, and Lloyd,and half-sisters, Estelle Roach, Willie May Sanford, and Hazel Murphy. Her daughter,Patti Winiarski, son-in-law, Marvin Jordan, grandsons Jonathan Jordan, Pat McCarty, and Robby McCarty; great grandson Joseph Winiarski, IV; and sister-in-law, Irene Moore.
Memi is survived by her daughter Cissy Jordan, two sons, Robert A.(Tony) McCarty, and wife, Gaye, Joe Edward McCarty and wife, Cherry. Her brother, W illiam E. (Bill) Moore and wife, Becky. 10 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 17 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
We are Thankful for the many years of life that God granted to our Mother, Grandmother , Sister, Aunt, and Friend. She will forever hold a Special Place in our Hearts.
