Shreveport, LA - Lucille Dickens Straughn, 80, died Saturday in her home in Shreveport, LA following a lengthy illness. Lucille was born August 28, 1927 in Lee County, North Carolina to parents Rosa Mae Dickens and Lattie C. Dickens. She was one of seven children and survived by three brothers, Jim Dickens, Bud Dickens, Walker Dickens, and her only sister, Sally Dickens, all of North Carolina. Lucille is also survived by her husband of 58 years, Richard Straughn, and their three daughters, Pat Lindsey of Chuluota, FL, Mary Deutsch of Hallsville, TX and Lucy Franklin, of Bossier City, LA. She has nine grandchildren, Willie Lockaby, deceased, James Lockaby and Michael Smith, of Portland, OR, Tammy J. Ellis, of Dallas, TX, Cheryl Ollis, of Gladewater, TX, Chris Deutsch, of Hallsville, TX, Brandy Barrentine of Magnolia, DE, and Pamela Rudnicki and Rick Lindsey, of Chuluota, FL. She also has five great-grandchildren. Lucille enjoyed her many travels; she was fortunate to have with her husband Richard Straughn's career with AFFES. They retired 31 years ago in Shreveport after living in many states in the U.S. and abroad in Hawaii and the Philippine Islands. She was a member of University Church of Christ in Shreveport, LA. She loved the Lord and her family first and foremost. She was and excellent cook and gardener. Her sweet and kind spirit will be missed. The family would like to thank: Circle of Life Hospice for there excellent care and love, Our Minister, Jerry Hodge for his many visits and support to her and the family. Also, the family is ever so thankful to her good friend Gloria Goss and long time caretaker Michelle Nicholson. A celebration and memorial of her life will be set for a later time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to the Ark-La- Tex Crisis Pregnancy Center of Shreveport, La or Heart of Hope a Sanctuary for Women in Keithville, LA.
