John H. Rosser
Bossier City, LA - John Hearn Rosser, 90, of Bossier City died peacefully with his family on Saturday, February 19th, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church in Shreveport.
Visitation and remembrances with the family will be held from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at the Boone Funeral Home on Airline Drive in Bossier City. John was born on February 9, 1921 to Hallie Anderson Rosser and David Lee Rosser, the fourth of six children. He grew up during the Great Depression on his family?s farm in Caldwell Parish, Louisiana where he learned hard work, perseverance and self sacrifice. He attended Louisiana College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and also met and married Velma Hale. He then attended Baptist Bible Institute where he obtained a Master of Divinity degree, after which he founded a church in Raceland, Louisiana. Later, he attended Tulane University where he was awarded a Master of Social Work. He served his fellow man his whole life as a pastor, social worker, counselor and a volunteer with a range of organizations including Haven House, Habitat for Humanity, SPAR, the YWCA Battered Women?s Shelter and Bossier Council on Aging, where he was an exercise leader and active member for over twenty years. He was a member of the All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, an avid vegetable gardener who shared his crops with the whole neighborhood, an athlete who won numerous medals at the Senior Olympics and a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Velma Hale Rosser, his brother Ellis Rosser, his three daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous friends.
