John Jackins Bossier City-John Jackins died peacefully Sunday afternoon, January 17 at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport with his family at his bedside. He lost his 18 month battle with leukemia. John was born in Shreveport on March 21, 1941 to Margaret and Sam Jackins. He attended AC Steere Elementary, Byrd High School and Wentworth Military Academy. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps where he worked in aircraft maintenance. After his service, he worked in the heavy equipment business. Prior to his being diagnosed with leukemia, he was employed for many years at Red River Motor Company in the commercial division where he was highly regarded by his fellow workers, and the entire Bossier-Shreveport automotive community for his work ethic and product knowledge. He enjoyed a great amount of customer loyalty. John was a people person and if he ever met anyone once, he never forgot him or his name. John is survived by his wife of 20 years Charlotte Winford Jackins, his son John Gordon Jackins, Jr. and wife Stephanie of Haughton; his cousin Barney Branch of Longview, TX; 4 step-children; 8 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his three little girls, Tootsie, Precious, and Dixie. They sat patiently with him through those long hours while he read his bible We wish to acknowledge ?our little family? of cancer patients, doctors, nurses and entire hospital staff at K6 wing of LSU Medical Center. They all treated John with kindness and respect. We also thank Reverend Joe Wiggins, Jr. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children?s Hospital in John?s memory. In accordance with his wishes, John?s body will be cremated. An informal celebration of John?s life will be held at Boone Funeral Home on Airline Drive in Bossier City at 2:30 pm on Thursday, January 21. Any of John?s friends are welcome to share their memories of John. A reception will follow.
