A Service of Remembrance will be held for James Kenneth Grimes on Tuesday, October 9 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Blanchard. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating will be Dr. Doug Allen and Rev. Dale Sauls.
James (known to family as Kenny) was born to James Thomas Grimes & Floriene Pearce Grimes in Magnolia Arkansas on February 15, 1956 and died after a brief illness in Bossier City on October 5, 2018. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Floriene Grimes, of Bossier City; his sister Penny (Grimes) Sauls and husband Dale of Blanchard; by his niece Candace (Grimes) Jones and husband Kenny of Haughton; by his precious great-niece, Sophia Jones (Little Bit) of Haughton. Candace as well as Sophie affectionately knew him simply as “Uncle.” He is also survived by one aunt, one uncle and numerous cousins.
Kenny was a graduate of Northwood High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Blanchard. After an honorable discharge from the army, Kenny worked at various jobs during his adult life, including a brief period as custodian at First Baptist, Blanchard. He also worked for a pest control service as well as in construction delivery before an injury and other health problems led him to an early retirement.
Kenny was an avid New Orleans Saints fan and a great fan of Star Trek. The family wishes to express their appreciation to his friend Jennifer for caring for and assisting him during his recent illness and to the staff of Willis Knighton Bossier for their kind and compassionate care for him during his final hours.
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4 NKJV
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Blanchard to assist with final expenses.
