Galey Douglas Honaker

d. April 24, 2019

Galey Douglas Honaker was born on July 9,1942 in Farmville, VA and passed away on April 24, 2019 at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Bossier City. His parents were Elbert Douglas Honaker and Lois Galey Honaker. He grew up in Crewe, VA. In 1960, he enlisted in the USAF, where he served four years. During that time, he met the love of his life, Carolyn Haynes, and they were married in 1963. After living in Blytheville, AR, Memphis, TN and Haynesville, LA (where both their children were born), they settled in Bossier City in 1971. He accepted a job as salesman at Chevy Land in Shreveport and was later promoted to management and retired as Commercial and Fleet Sales Manager in 2002. He served many customers and considered them his special friends.  After retirement, he served as a member of the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Posse.  His passion was golf and he could be found playing at Barksdale most days.  During the winter months, he loved deer hunting with his buddy in Rocky Mount.

He loved his churches, Stephen’s United Methodist Church and later Asbury UMC, serving on and chairing various committees. He considered it an honor to serve as Building Committee chair for Asbury’s new sanctuary which was consecrated in 2005 to the glory of God. As long as his health permitted, he and Carolyn traveled when they could and enjoyed some wonderful trips.

Left to treasure the memories are his wife, Carolyn Haynes Honaker; daughter, Lisa Honaker Anderson of Martinsville, VA; and Doug Honaker and wife Carrie of Frisco, TX; five grandchildren, Jordan Anderson and his wife Elizabeth of Fairfax, VA; Brian Anderson of Hammond, LA; Melissa Anderson of Martinsville, VA; Blake Honaker (a student at the University of Oklahoma) and Cameron Honaker of Frisco, TX. He also has two sisters, Mary Ann Kinser of Ashland, VA and Marsha Peterson of Charlottesville, VA; several nephews and a niece and many, many friends. He also leaves behind his beloved fur baby, Bandit, age 14.
