Elida Caballero Harris ? SHREVEPORT, LA. Mrs. Harris, 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 20, 2011, at NurseCare of Shreveport, surrounded by members of her family. Mrs. Harris was a native of La Concepcion, Providence of Chiriqui, Republic of Panama, and relocated to the United States with her husband in the late 40s. She was retired from the field of nursing, having worked for the Shreveport Sanitarium and Charity Hospital of New Orleans, and loved to crochet, garden, and cook for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Harris of Monroe, her father, Bruno Caballero of Italy, and mother, Dorila Cervantes of Spain. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Erlinda and Lloyd MacKinnon of Shreveport, daughter, Elida (Yolanda) Morris of Shreveport, son and daughter-in-law, Juan S. and Vilma Cervantes of Panama, and grandchildren, David Akin of New Orleans, Elizabeth Beattie of Shreveport, Pamela Miller of Bossier City, and Thomas Morris of Nacogodoches, Texas. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, including one of her closest companions, her great-grandson, Daniel Giddings, son of Pamela Miller, who is in the Navy, stationed at Kings Bay, Georgia. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Cherise Irby and the staff of the first floor at NurseCare of Shreveport for her extended care, Administrator Vicki Ott, Victor Manning, Sheryl Patterson, Sandra Thompson, Ingrid Cooper, and Jana Wainwright. The compassion and care given by Odyssey Hospice made her transition to the Heavenly Father much easier; special thanks to hospice nurses Gracie Betts and Seleta Rich, and Chaplain Steve Slaughter. Thanks also to Church of Christ North, St. Pius X Ladies Guild, and Reverend Thomas Vadakemuryl for their support and prayers. Per her request, no formal service will be held. The family will have a memorial at her burial at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 2011, at Kilpatrick?s Roseneath Cemetery in Bossier City.
