Cora McDonald Collins was born June 16, 1927 in Springhill, Louisiana and was escorted to her heavenly home on April 9, 2019. She accepted Jesus into her heart at a young age. Her strong display of faith in God and unwavering prayers sustained her and those that she loved throughout her life. A private service will be held in celebration of her life well-lived.
Cora was a wonderful homemaker and devoted her life to her family. She dearly loved her family and will be greatly missed by Angie, through which her legacy will continue. She transitioned from this life to her eternal home with her loving daughter, Angie Collins, by her side.
She is survived by her daughters, Angie Collins, Sandra Hoover, and one sister Mary Fox. Left to cherish precious memories is Angie Collins.
Mom enjoyed shopping and was a stylish dresser. She enjoyed filling our homes with her treasures and the aroma of home cooked meals, many of which were prepared with fresh fish that Daddy caught, venison that he killed and vegetables that he grew in our garden. She treasured memories made at their home on Lake Erling, fish fry’s with family and friends, traveling, shopping and lunch trips with Angie. Her beautiful yards in Shiloh and on Lake Erling brought her much joy. Oh, how she loved Shiloh.
The last fifteen years of Cora’s life brought hard challenges after losing Daddy and losing her only son, Mical to leukemia. Life was never the same. Her undying spirit, tenacity, and faith grew stronger as she was shown the love of Jesus, through daily compassion and care, by her daughter, Angie. Although her mobility was lost, she remembered each family member and friend until the day of her death. “Amazing Grace” was Mothers’ favorite song and she exemplified amazing grace as she dealt with long, lonely days yearning to receive a visit or phone call from loved ones that she had not seen in many years. Her beautiful blue eyes held their sparkle until recently when Angie grew to treasure each little wink that Mom was able to achieve. It was her way of saying “All is well.”
Thank you to the staff of Colonial Oaks Nursing Home and Christus Schumpert-Hospice for providing love and compassionate care for my Mother, my best friend. Special thanks to Keisha, CNA, for the love and care shown for my precious Mother. Keisha lived out the Golden Rule of “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” as she provided care to Mom.
Cora was predeceased by her father and mother, Moses and Mary Wilkins McDonald, brothers Wreyford, James, Jesse, Willie, Sim and Dean McDonald, sisters Lillian Farrington, and Syble Hensley, and son Mical Collins, a grandchild that we never got to hold, her Grand dog Brittney and her beloved husband of 56 years, C.B. Collins. What a wonderful heavenly reunion that she is having!! I know that there is much love, restored health and music filling the air!!
Memorials can be made by spending time with those who love and need you. As Mother has often told me, “Love The Lord with all your heart,” “Be sweet,” “Enjoy your life,” “Do your best” and leave the rest up to God. “It will all work out.”
Matthew 25:23 His Lord said unto him, well done, thy good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord. Come into your eternal rest.
Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for you are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.
Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
Her last promise, to me, was to be my guardian angel, for which I will be forever thankful.
